1. List of Requirements
1.1 Functional Requirements
- The
SurfacesystemSamplingshallContainerstorestoresregolith, Mars powder, and rock/probe samples in 2–3 separate compartments(2–3 total), keeping sample types isolated from collection through storage. - The robotic arm
grabsshall use a scooptool, which it usestool to collect sample material from the surface andpourdeposit it onto the container's weighingplatform.platform. - Once loaded, the container
weighsshall weigh the total collected samplemass.mass. - If the measured mass meets or exceeds the minimum
threshold,threshold (100 g), the lidopensshall open via themotormotor, and the materialisshall be deposited intoone ofthecompartments;appropriate compartment; the lid shall thenclosesclose and lock automatically viathe motor and locks by default throughmagnetic caps mounted on thetop of thelid andthecontainerbase of the container.base. - If the measured mass falls below the
threshold,threshold (100 g), the motoractuatesshall actuate to open the container and reject the sample rather thanstoringstore it.

isshall be constrained to a single degree of freedom in Z-translation,translation,keepingensuring thesystemplatform remains stationary during measurementand ensuringfor accurate readings.

- The locking mechanism

weightmassof the regolith (or other material) fallsis below 100 g, themotorsystemrejectsshall reject the sample automatically by opening the containerand removing itrather than storingittheinmaterial.
