# Brother Laser Printer

# Usage

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">RoboTeam Twente uses a </span>**Brother DCP-L2620DW**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> multifunction printer for day-to-day printing, scanning, and copying. This document covers setup and everyday usage. ## Unboxing and First Setup (Already Done☮️)

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Follow these steps only if the machine is being set up from scratch (new printer, or a full reset). If the printer is already on the network, skip ahead to </span>**Everyday Printing**.

1. **Unpack the machine**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> and remove all protective tape and film. In the box you should find the AC power cord, the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly, and the printed guides.</span>
2. **Remove the packing materials**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> and install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly — remove the orange packing part before pushing the assembly firmly into place.</span>
3. **Load paper**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> into the paper tray, adjusting the paper guides and keeping the stack below the max-fill mark.</span>
4. **Connect the power cord**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> at the back of the machine and turn the printer on.</span>
5. **Select country/language**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> if prompted during initial setup, and follow any further on-screen instructions.</span>

### Selecting the LCD Language (if needed, please keep English, but you can change it to the least spoken language in the office if you are evil like the last printer guy🫡)

## Connecting the Printer to Wi-Fi (Already Done☮️)

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The recommended way to connect is via the guided setup: visit </span>**setup.brother.com**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> on the computer or mobile device you want to print from, download and install Brother software, and follow the on-screen prompts to connect the machine to the wireless network.</span>

### Manual Wireless Setup

If the guided wireless setup is unsuccessful, the network can be configured manually on the machine itself. You'll need the SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (password), listed in the Machine Details table above.

1. <span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">For LCD models: press </span>**Menu**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, then select </span>**Network → WLAN(Wi-Fi) → Find Wi-Fi Network**.
2. Select the SSID (**RoboTeam Twente**) for your access point or router and enter the Network Key (password) when prompted.
3. Press and hold (or press repeatedly) ▲ or ▼ to select each character of the password.

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">When the wireless setup is successful, the LCD displays </span>**Connected, already does☮️**.

## Everyday Printing (Already Done☮️)

### Printing from a Device on the Network

Once your computer or mobile device is on the same network (**RoboTeam Twente**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">), install the Brother printer software from </span>**setup.brother.com**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> if you haven't already, then select the DCP-L2620DW as your printer as normal from any application's print dialog.</span>

### Printing by Email (THE WAY TO GO☮️)

Files can also be printed by emailing them directly to the machine — handy when you don't have the printer driver installed.

1. Attach the file you want to print.
2. <span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In the </span>**To:**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> field, enter the machine's email address: </span>**RoboTeamPrinter@print.brother.com**.
3. Send the email. The machine will start printing once it receives it.

### Managing Settings via Web Browser

Advanced settings (including the email print address, printer settings, and access control) can be managed from the machine's Web Based Management page. Enter the machine's IP address ([https://192.168.0.35)](https://192.168.0.35/home/status.html)<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> into a browser on a device connected to the same network, then go to the </span>**Online Functions**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> tab → </span>**Online Functions Settings**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> → </span>**Online Functions Settings Page**.

## Can't Connect? Check the Following

If the machine won't connect to the wireless network or won't be discovered by a computer during setup, work through this checklist in order:

1. **Restart your wireless access point or router,**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> if this isn't possible, move on to the next step.</span>
2. **Disconnect the USB cable**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> if one is connected, then move on to the next step.</span>
3. **Restart your machine and computer**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, then retry the connection using the guided setup at </span>**setup.brother.com**.
4. <span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">If it's still unsuccessful, go through the </span>**Manual Wireless Setup**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> steps described on Page 1.</span>
5. <span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">If manual setup is also unsuccessful, visit </span>**support.brother.com**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> for FAQs and troubleshooting, or repeat the wireless access point/router restart.</span>

## Reading the WLAN Report

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The machine can print a </span>**WLAN Report**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> which is useful for diagnosing connection problems. A </span>**Connection: OK**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> result at the top confirms the machine successfully associated with the access point. The report also lists the current SSID, MAC address, authentication type (</span>**WPA3-SAE**), encryption (**TKIP+AES**), and the network channel (**40**) in use. If a report shows a connection error instead, the error code printed can be looked up on Brother's support site.

## Reading the Network Configuration Report

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A more detailed </span>**Network Configuration**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> report can also be printed from the machine, and is useful when diagnosing issues beyond basic connectivity (e.g. email print, scanning, or web management access not working). It includes:</span>

- **Node Firmware Version**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> and uptime since last restart.</span>
- **Protocol status**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> (on/off) for services such as Web Server, AirPrint, Network Scan, SNMP, and FTP: useful for confirming whether a needed feature is enabled.</span>
- **Send E-mail Settings (SMTP)**, including the device's own mail address and outbound mail server.
- **Wireless LAN details**: SSID, IP address, authentication/encryption mode, signal quality, and operating channel: the same core details shown in the WLAN report, plus IP configuration.
- **Wireless statistics**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> (RX/TX packets, frame errors) which can help identify a weak or noisy connection if error counts are climbing.</span>

## Default Password &amp; Network Security

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The machine ships with a default password located on the back or side of the unit and marked </span>**"Pwd"**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">, used to manage the machine's settings. Brother recommends changing this immediately to protect the machine from unauthorised access. For this machine, the default password has been changed from the factory value to </span>**Oranjebal1**, which is also recorded on the printed WLAN and Network Configuration reports kept with the machine.

<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Because </span>**Replace Toner**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> is set to </span>**Stop**, the machine will halt printing entirely once toner runs low rather than continuing with faded output, keep a spare toner cartridge on hand to avoid downtime(and if budget allows☮️).

## Routine Maintenance (Alot of Work, not really required though, only if needed☮️)

- **Paper jams / feed issues:**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> open the paper tray and check the stack isn't loaded past the max-fill mark, and that the paper guides are adjusted snugly against the paper.</span>
- **Toner or drum replacement:** follow the same procedure used during initial setup: open the front cover, remove the old toner cartridge/drum unit assembly, and install the replacement, taking care to remove any orange packing tape on new drum units.
- **Auto Power Off:**<span style="white-space: pre-wrap;"> the machine powers down automatically after 20 minutes idle; simply press the power button to wake it before printing.</span>
